fair trade

feeling on top of things
but underneath other things
someone told me today that
nigeria has a very large flower export market
but it's suffering because of the way that green economics is marketed
everything is so complicated now
once you just grew
or picked from someone else's garden
or bought from the florist
or the person down the street
some flowers that were in season in your part of the world
now we worry about economies in places we may never have been
fair trade
i think it's the right thing to do
but how fair is fair
how do we know we have the right facts
all the world
all the flowers
all the money
all the hope
and we're still being manipulated
we're all leaders to someone.
but where are we leading to?
i don't want people in nigeria to starve.. i don't want to have no money to pay my rent.
i don't want people to be assaulted and robbed of their freedom. i want to have the guts to do what i want with my own life.
all these things are so obvious, but they don't happen. i can think of a million reasons, but i don't want to hear them. i only want to make a difference - a positive difference to those around me.
